Faith is often described as a journey. We are travelling with Jesus Christ. He is the Way and He stands at the place of departure and at the destination. We are also travelling with fellow Christians. We also travel with people of no faith or of other religions. Often we have to find our way through things that look bad and chaotic.
The GPS of our journey of faith is the Bible. In his third book, SAAMLOOP, Gerjo Ben presented the four gospels to us in the language and idiom of today. It helped many people to “hear” the good news again. Gerjo Ben has received a wonderful gift from the Holy Spirit to talk to us in everyday language.
Now he is taking us a step further on the journey through the books of the New Testament. He focuses on some of brother Paul’s letters. Gerjo Ben knows – like every Christian – that we often progress through falling and getting back up again. Paul also experienced this, writing that he wanted to do good, but found himself doing the opposite.
Therefore, the basis of our faith is not our religious achievements. It lies in the grace of being helped up by Jesus again and again, the One who looks too stupid for the cleverness of the world.
And that is where the title comes from: Get up and Go. We hardly ever look graceful as we travel along our journey of faith. It’s more a bumbling around than dancing.
If someone wants to boast, let him or her boast in Christ.
